Georg Stangelberger
In 1999, Mr. Georg Stangelberger joined the Phoenix Boys Choir as Artistic Director with unparalleled international experience with the Vienna Choir Boys, in the latter years as Deputy Artistic Director.
Now in his twelfth season with the boys, he recalls many memorable performances. He led the Choir to its Carnegie Hall debut, to France and Spain where the choir was named
"Cultural Ambassador" to the European Union and to Germany, Switzerland and Austria where they sang side-by-side with the
Vienna Choir Boys in the famous Court Chapel. In June of 2007 he led the boys to victory when they won 1st place at the
Summa Cum Laude International Youth Choir Festival in the Musikverein in Vienna, Austria.
In the fall of 2004, Mr. Stangelberger made his debut with the Phoenix Symphony conducting
the orchestra and Phoenix Boys Choir in the Requiem by W. A. Mozart. He is regular guest

While with the Vienna Choir Boys, Mr. Stangelberger conducted over 700 performances in nearly every major concert hall of Europe, Asia, plus North and South America. He composed pieces for choir and recorded numerous CDs. He collaborated with other world-renowned singers and conductors including Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras, Luciano Pavarotti, Peter Schreier, Eva Marton, Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Muti, Seiji Ozawa and Horst Stein. In 1999, he received the Joseph Schnitt Medal of the Hofmusikkapelle in Vienna for his service to this famous institution comprised of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Men of the Vienna State Opera Choir and the Vienna Choir Boys. He was also made an honorary member of the Vienna Choir Boys for his years of dedication and service.
A native of Austria, he studied music in Vienna, Ottawa and Zagreb. He holds a Masters Degree in Choral Conducting as well as Bachelor Degrees in Orchestra Conducting and Vocal Accompaniment from the Music University of Vienna. He has done workshops and clinics with choirs and choir directors in America and around the world.
